So Addison got to ride in an ambulance today for the first (and I hope last!) time. She is doing fine now and it ended up not being anything ubberly major. We went to the Strip to go to M&M world, see the fountains and have some dinner since my mom is here. We were all doing really well, enjoying the nice day/evening. Well, we decided to do the buffet at the Bellagio for dinner not sure where else really would be great for the kids and close to where we were. There was a good bit of waiting to get in but then thankfully you don't have to wait for food (the joys of buffets!). Everyone was enjoying dinner, Josh was antsy and over tired but contained so I was counting that as a huge blessing. Addison was in a good mood, she was eating well and enjoying her food, which of course was cut in small pieces for her to eat like normal. I got up to get more food and remember hearing this baby start crying, I thought how awful, that poor baby obviously doesn't feel well at all or something is really wrong; I'm glad that it's not Addy and she's been in a good mood though the voice sounds like hers it doesn't sound like a cry I've ever heard come from her. I walked back to the table to see Mike standing up trying to comfort her and my heart sank. I sat down and took her to try and see if she just wanted me. She wasn't any calmer, she just fussed and her crying sounded so different, almost weak. Mom took her to try and help, thinking she had an upset tummy or some gas or something and that didn't help either. My heart was so torn, this was not Addison, this was not normal and something in me just went into some kind of mode and I knew we needed to leave. As we were packing everything and everyone back up and bundling up for the walk I told Mike I would just ride with her in the back seat to try and help her but if she was this fussy when we got home I was going to take her in because it wasn't normal something was really wrong.
We left the buffet and were heading to the lobby, knowing it was a good long walk back to the other end of the strip where we had parked, I was worried. Addison started making noises like she was choking or about to throw-up but nothing ever came up or out. She sounded like her breathing was labored, she kept making that noise like she was choking and then after that she'd be limp and almost passed out. This was not my baby, she does not just go to sleep because she's tired. She sleeps great, but she is a noisy little girl and especially while we are out won't just suddenly nod off. Her cries sounded weak, her breathing sounded choppy. I didn't know what to do with the long walk. Finally it was decided to ask the front desk to call an ambulance because her breathing seemed so off and she seemed to be gagging/chocking but nothing ever came of it and she kept doing it. The desk staff was very helpful and prompt and their security people were quickly there to help any way they could until medical personnel arrived. I kept thinking this is how Josh's attacks seemed to have started, she had pizza and there was a sign that it was made with peanut oil or could be made with peanut oil (even though we don't have to avoid those, my eyes still find all the signs it seems). Now I'm scared and really thought I was going to just cry hysterically except that would not help Addison at all, that wouldn't help the boys but just scare them so I didn't.
The EMT's arrived and took her vitals, which were all coming back fine. Her breathing sounded fine clinically. I didn't know what to think, except that she wasn't acting right. They were all so very nice, and asked if she could just be tired, if normally she'd be sleepy since she seemed so lethargic. She'd napped twice today, she hasn't been sick in a week or more, no she shouldn't be tired like this. She sounded weak to me, did she always sound so quiet when she cried - no not at all. While Mike filled out paper work for the hotel and my mom kept the boys entertained and safe they asked if I wanted to have her taken to the hospital by ambulance. I didn't know what to do at first, I don't want to over react, but this is one of my babies and they don't sound right at all. One of the fireman there said he thought it would be beneficial, an EMT said given her lethargic nature she felt it was the right thing to do; so off we went. They strapped me to the board and let me hold Addison so she was more comfortable. Mike took everyone home and then would join me.
After about 5 minutes, Addison suddenly seemed more relaxed, more herself and I suddenly realized her color was back. I hadn't realized just how pale she had gotten; the reason the fireman had felt it important that she goes in by ambulance. Her blood sugar was on the low normal too, and I guess since we had just eaten this concerned one of the EMT's
I jokingly told Mike that I wasn't sure I liked where our Thanksgiving weekends were headed - this is year #2 in a row that we've had to go the emergency room. Last year was when Noah busted his eye open in Minnesota. I do not want this to be a new trend for the family!
