Ah...Saturday

Well it's been a really productive and nice Saturday here as well as relaxing, amazing how relaxing it can be to actually be productive at times. This morning Mike helped Alexis and Ken move while Simon played over here with Noah. I feel like I had the easy part, the boys played outside for a good hour and a half with the dog and Josh was out with us too for about an hour of that time. After that, I was making lunch and thought we'd eat outside, all the boys and the dog wanted to be inside though - they were worn out! A little lunch, a little bit of rest and then we had some fun playing with clay - yep not playdough, clay. I think I found some really cheap somewhere and haven't broke it out until today. I think it is good to give different experiences to Noah (and one day Josh!) so this was a nice way to have something a lot like playdough but still different enough to be noticed. Noah had a lot of fun, he's really getting a lot more able with fine motor skills. He was rolling the clay to make snakes and almost got a ball rolled. It was lots of fun to play with Noah and Simon with the clay. Josh was fascinated with it all too, he was really having a good time watching us play from the high chair. He's been so happy today! I love it, love these happy and playful boys. After that it was off to lunch for the grownups at Subway, very yummy. Now we are home, the boys are napping, I'm finally getting to laundry and Mike is cleaning the garage, it's been a very great day for us and hope the same is true for you!

Busy days

I can't believe I haven't posted since Saturday...where did the time go? Sunday we opted out of doing nothing, lol, and had lunch with some friends from church. The church picnic was suppose to be in the evening but they canceled it because it was suppose to have severe weather. Well, the wind was definitely severe, part of our fence (the part we share with our neighbors) fell down Sunday night! Yikes. Discussion of when to fix it completely since it Mike won't be able to fix it in June, the weather was suppose to be yucky and rainy and well we've just been busy was thorough, and at first Mike wanted to fix it this week, but we decided to just put a temporary support to what is there and wait til July sometime to get it redone. So that is that - for now it will be up hopefully with a little extra support and stay that way until we can get it done.

We have gone for several walks, Kasey is getting better in some regards with her leash. She walks fine now, she has the concept of coming with us. Now though we may have to break out the leader - she's pulling now! Oh well, we have enjoyed several good walks. She is also getting so very close to being house broken. She is lacking in complete bladder control it seems, when she's excited or getting to the door and while we put her leash on going a little. Oh well, at least it is progress and she's improving. She continues to do great with the boys, that is so wonderful. Noah likes to rough house with her, we are discouraging this right now, he's too little to understand when enough is enough for her and how to really be gentle while rough housing. Despite our discouragement sometimes it happens and I'm so impressed with how she reacts, she'll either walk away or give him kisses. She's also a very bright girl, she's going to need lots of interaction and challenges as she grows. I wonder if this is going to make it easier or more difficult to train her, but we'll see. We start puppy classes soon. I think she's growing, no definite reasons, just that she seems taller.

Yesterday we went to the zoo for park hoppers (our MOPS group does this during the summer). It was just Sara & Ethan, and Michelle & Lex and me and the boys but we had a great day! We didn't leave until 230ish I think and were there at 10:30. Let me tell you too, walking around with a double stroller for four hours is a workout! I took the camera, stupid batteries though I swear the camera eats them, mine died. Sara had her camera and took lots of great pictures that I'm sure I'll get and then I'll post them. The new butterfly exhibit was very nice, a butterfly landed on Josh but we missed getting a picture, oh well another time. I was impressed with Noah's listening at the zoo, for the most part he walked with Lex and they would go running but when I said stop,he'd stop. He stayed close and didn't get upset when it was time to go somewhere else. I still get nervous with him not being right with me, he likes his growing freedom, and within reason I want him to have it but I'm still nervous. After the zoo we had just a bit of time to kill before getting Mike, one of those not enough to go home, unpack the boys, repack the boys and go again (would have only left us 5 minutes to relax at home) so we went to the library on base. Noah really is starting to enjoy picking out stories for bed time and other times during the day and will choose different stories so I was hoping he would enjoy picking them out with me. He liked being at the library but I'm not sure he had had enough nap to make it fun for him. He has enjoyed reading the four stories we picked out though, we got one with a train, a Curious George book, a Harry Scary book (the ones about what people in towns do), and one about a bug called the B-52 Cockroach and how it learned to fly (definitley named after the B-52 but an odd story with little to do with the real B52s which I had hoped it would, oh well). After that we were all home and went for a long walk. Noah usually likes to walk so we took the single stroller, after awhile he wanted to ride and climbed in the basket of the stroller. I really wished we had a camera with batteries it was way too funny. So apparently we dont' have to have the double stroller for both boys to ride.

Today I had a doctor appointment to follow up from surgery. I had several concerns, first the infection and incesion spot and second my moods (poor Mike!, I have had the worst mood swings the last month and a half and haven't been myself at all, just irritable and disconnected, and a short fuse). Anyway, the spot that was infected and had to be opened is healing great, it's starting to close and is closing from the inside out and instead of the way it healed the first time which is why it got infected probably (no I don't have diabates Mom, no need to worry). They switched some of my medicine too so hopefully the mood swings should become less dramatic, which is wonderful news.

After that I had the boys and Simon and Mike went back to work for a bit and then helped Alexis and Ken move tonight. I think we all worked super hard tonight, poor Alexis must be exhuasted (remember she's pregnant) and I'm sure with all the lifting and hauling Mike and Ken are also exhuasted. I hate to say that I am too, but Josh fussed for an hour or so, then Simon and Noah were just busy and a bit of a handful, I don't think either got a good nap since Alexis had Noah while I was at the doctor and of course I made dinner but decided to grill and the boys wanted to be outside and I wasn't comfortable with the flames from the charcoal starter...but we all survived in one piece and I think most of the heavy lifting and moving was done tonight which is great! I promise I'll try and get pictures posted this weekend, I'll have to take some more too, I would say I've slacked off but since there are 300 or some for May I guess it's okay that there weren't a billion taken this week, huh?

Tomorrow is cleaning day here, laundry and floors that need some TLC desperately and chairs (who knew 2 year olds could get a dining room chair so absolute gross even with wiping them down after every meal...really where does that come from? but it does!) Mike & I also have a date night planned...so very excited, it will be nice to have some uninterupted conversation and dinner without cutting someone else's food or holding and/or feeding someone. Not sure what we're doing yet but I dont' think it matters at this point, just will be wonderful to have some us time!

Seriously, again??

Okay I just have to get out my whining and complaining now, sorry, then I promise some pictures and updates on the boys. So I had surgery 5 1/2 weeks ago, everything was going fine, healing fine just one spot taking a bit longer. Well last night it's oozing stuff and this morning it's a bright red and hurts and is still oozing so of course I go to the doctor, well ER really. Yeah so now this is infected...are you kidding? Could I please just heal like a normal person and get better? So no gym this week, they had to slice it open again and then stick in a needle to get more junk out, aparently lots of puss and blood - nice huh? - and we have to pack it with gauze that is soaked in something until Thursday and I'm taking medicine again. UGH! I'm sick of having these stupid weird things happen. Oh well, it hurts and probably will for the rest of this week they said. Yuck! The weather is doing okay here especially considering they said it was going to rain all weekend. Mike got lots done this morning and got all the old wood taken away this weekend with some help from Ken and Matt, that was great. The Christmas lights are finally coming down too...haha!

Kasey is doing really well. She of course is still a puppy and we are working on manners and not nipping, but she's making really great progress and even did well last night when we had some company. We are also having very few accidents - thank goodness! She has found a new spot to hang out when she's tired, under the exersaucer, such a cutie.

Noah is continuing to add words to his vocabulary, sometimes it totally surprises us. He said "pizza" while Mike's parents were here, but yesterday we went for pizza for lunch and he was so very excited about pizza, he would say "yeah pizza, pizza" and he ate 3 slices (almost) and this was after 3 bowls of cereal. Mike gave him cereal in the little Gerber bowls we have, this morning though he gave him a regular bowl and it was eaten. He still had a big lunch today, too. This must be another growth spurt because normally he only has 1 big meal during the day. He's had an enormous amount of energy lately, too and it is a totally silly energy. Onry little boy sometimes too. He also is beginning to want to play catch, where he'll stand in one spot and want to throw it back and forth. He's getting a little better at catching too.

Josh is still loving his exersaucer and is so into playing peek a boo! He gets the absolute best smiles when we play. He's getting to be so expressive. When he's happy he has great smiles and laughs, but when he's not happy he is still quite expressive especially in his eyebrows, he looks so mad. He's a very grabby kid lately, too. Yesterday when he was sitting near Ethan, he kept grabbing at Ethan and trying to chew on Ethan's feet or ears. Poor Ethan! Ethan is getting so big too! It will be so much fun to see Josh and Ethan play. We're really hoping that the sleep thing will get better, he's going a little longer now, up to about 5 hours and then 3. We just need to work on getting him on a better schedule so that 5 hour stretch starts shortly before we want to go to bed I guess. I have to laugh when I think of all the things that say at 6 months they should sleep through the night...here's to hoping that's a magical number of months. We weighed Josh tonight too, now this was still with clothes and diaper on which isn't there when he gets weighed at appointments, but still pretty close I think to right. So at 4 months he was 25 inches and 14 lbs 9 oz...today at about 5 1/2 months he is 25 inches and 16 lbs 9 oz! Chunky little monkey. We actually switched his clothes out today too, he's now in his 6 - 9 month stuff. The other stuff was starting to just look tight on him and too snug and since we already had what he needed it just made sense. I think that is all for us...we're going to have a relaxing Sunday tomorrow hopefully with church and then just grilling out with us after that. We thought it would be great to relax at home and let the boys play and Kasey play. It's a little easier to feel like we're hanging out as a family at home sometimes so there's not one of us with one kid and the other with the other and this way we Kasey will get lots of time to play too (Noah is still wearing her out though!)

Muddy Boy

Just a quick post today, not too much exciting going on. The pictures at the bottom are really from yesterday. Noah found the hose that Mike had used the night before and discovered there were drips of water that would come out - he found dirt soon and we had mud. I am sure this is not our last experience with playing in the mud, and well I think it's pretty good for him.

Noah had his eye appointment today, they had a cancelation so we didn't have to wait til the end of June. His eyes are great, there aren't any problems and the doctor said he was fine. That was good news. They dialated his eyes though, I thought after about 3 hours he would be good to go and we tried to go to park hoppers...poor little guy couldn't open his eyes. So we didn't stay long. Oh well, we came home. While the boys napped I got some stuff done for VBS in June.

And on another note, Joshua apparently loves bananas, last night he ate a HUGE banana (thanks to the bullet type blender it was ready in like seconds!). He slept a little longer last night, 3 1/2 hours at least. When will he sleep through the night? I'm really thinking our house needs sleep! I told Mike his trip will be a vacation because he'll get to sleep 8 hours, sad that I even thought that. I must just say though, I think I have the world's best husband...days I'm really just worn out he's so great about helping with dinner and dishes and just being there...I appreciate that so much.

Well not enough time or energy to really cover the past few days but here it goes`

WOW! We have been BUSY! Our trip to MN & ND was great. I'm afraid I was probably a little distracted and stressed out (sorry!) but for no good reason other than exhuastion from not really sleeping well for 5 1/2 months...it was still wonderful to see everyone! We had a great time, I think in 3 days we drove 24 hours at least in a van and were relatively comfortable considering it's still a vehicle. I'm pretty impressed and happy since the van was the one that we are considering. I hope that Dave, Debbie, & Shane weren't ready to kill us by the end of the trip (if they were they didn't let on at all!) Alyson's graduation was great, it was really neat for me to see a graduation at a small school, it was so personal! I was glad that we made it through the hour ceremony without having to leave. That isn't to say there weren't a couple of loud moments, but they weren't too loud and they weren't screaming (a sippy cup dropping on wooden bleachers is just loud), Noah enjoyed the slide show and the clapping a lot. I think he had the most fun at the farm though running around and playing ball. Josh did really well and slept during the ceremony and was good to be passed from person to person. Of course there really just wasn't enough time with everyone and we're looking forward to our next trip up north!

Josh is still working on teeth, I think that has been a huge contributing factor to his fussiness for the past 4 or 5 days. Today I was ever thankful to run into someone I knew at the grocery store who was able to help hold him while I finished shopping...not to mention I ran out of room in the cart - yikes those carts with the cars in front just aren't made big enough. What's with that anyway? If you have a small kid who wants to ride in that cart or two kids and thus need the car and the front seat of the cart - don't you think you'll need lots of groceries? Come on, that doesn't make much sense to me. Oh well.

Yesterday we picked up Kasey - yes her name is Kasey. We went for a walk (well tried to, getting her used to a lead and leash) played lots in the backyard and inside. Noah took his bubble mower on the walk with him, too funny. Josh was thrilled to be outside and enjoyed the ride in the stroller. He looks like such a big boy! He's still enjoying food and he's starting to sit even better than before, he can get himself pushed back up now too. I have pictures up on Kodak...no time to post them now, I'll add some from the weekend later I promise!

It's a GIRL!

Umm...NO we're not pregnant..silly folks! We are getting a puppy! We went to see her today, we have been talking for a while now about getting another puppy. We really wanted to get one sooner than later, but hadn't found one in our area that was within reason for us. That was until this week. She is 8 weeks old and is an hour from here, we drove out today to meet her and make sure she was the right pup for us. She was playful and inquisitive but okay to explore on her own. Noah loved getting kisses from her, too. We are very excited, of course there will be lots of work to do once she is home with us and we realize we'll have our hands full for a bit, but we can't wait! Here is a picture of her, we'll have lots more I'm sure after Monday. Since there is graduation and such this weekend, we aren't bringing her home until Monday evening. We'll get the house ready and get anything else needed Monday morning and then go and get her. We're debating a name though we have 4 possibilities right now.

Josh is 5 Months!

Seriously, time is flying! Josh is 5 months today. He is growing like a weed, which makes sense since I swear he's eating like a little piggy. Our attempts at baby food as we mentioned earlier were rough at first, he likes carrots though and is getting to eating 3 oz or so at a time. We're going to try some pears tonight before bed and hopefully get some cereal in with it too. He's still been eating about every 2 or 3 hours despite having more food. We're a little tired but good here, lol as you can imagine. Josh is starting to give such great smiles to everyone! Last night someone commented that he just seemed so much more content and happy since his skin is clearing up. The back of his neck looks so much better and so does his head and arms. We're so glad, he still gets itchy of course and this is the last day of doing the hydrocortizone cream for at least a couple weeks, so we'll see if it lasts a bit. He's so interested in toys now and follows Noah wherever he is with his eyes, I bet once Josh is mobile that Noah will have a shadow. So far it seems Josh is right on track for meeting all his milestones, now if only he'd sleep for 5 hours consistently! Check out his pictures here!

Noah had his 2 year check up today too (guess I can't call it a well baby visit anymore huh?). He is doing great too! They want them to have about 50 words that strangers can understand at least 50% of those words, he's doing great with the words he says and I think others can understand him with even more than that. Gross motor and fine motor skills all checked out great too, she asked me if he would draw a straight line after us, I said yes most of the time, but sometimes he says no when I ask and draws a circle instead - I guess this impressed the doctor. He's also going to start on some allergy medicine, he's been having a clear runny nose for 3 weeks or so and is itching his eyes sometimes after we've been outside, seemed like most of the signs were there and when we talked about it the doctor felt it would be good to try something to help. He is going to see an optomologist at some point, one eye doesn't track at the same rate that the other eye tracks. It could be completely innocent, it's not something we have noticed expect in maybe one or two pictures and we've just thought it was a little off but the doctor noticed and said it was better to have it checked though it could turn out to be nothing. So we finally got Noah's picture with his elephant, we'll have to try this every year but may end up having him stand next to something instead as he grows but here's some to compare for Noah too (oh and in case you're wondering he's 31.4 lbs which puts him in the 90% for weight, and he's 34 inches tall which is the 60% for height).

Growing up is hard (at least it is on me!)

So today in church I almost was in tears...just thinking about how quickly these past two years have flown by, thinking of holding little tiny Noah in my arms and just staring amazed at the blessing God gave Mike & I at the hospital. Okay, really I know I'm a huge sap, I can't help it! I absolutely love how much fun Noah is at this age though, he's such a funny kid. He's adventuresome and outgoing, then suddenly shy when attention is on him. He loves to go, go shopping or to the park or wherever, just go! He has quite a little arm on him, too, as well as loving to bat. His words are becoming more and more each day. So Happy Birthday Noah! We spent the day trying to do things we thought he would enjoy, so we started the day with chocolate chip pancakes, of course before we headed to church.After church we thought we would take Noah to lunch, somewhere he wanted to go. He's still not quite a well vocalized individual of course so we guessed - McDonald's was the winner. He loves fries and nuggets and there is minimal wait time so it's pretty kid friendly (plus it's in Walmart and we needed diapers!)

After we got home, Noah took a nap of course (this is best for us all). Mike spent time working on the deck. I was hoping to get the house cleaned again because we're having our MOPS end of the year thing tomorrow night here...but Josh had other plans for me which included me feeding him almost constantly and walking around the house! Ah, we had been trying baby food with little success, but honestly I don't know how much more I can take of this without some other food! Tonight though we had some success! FINALLY! Josh has hated all cereal of any kind, he is not apparently a fan of butternut squash yet either but carrots were a great hit! Suddenly he is trying to grab the spoon to help and then was crying because I didn't have more in the bowl to give him, we got some more and he continued to eat. I think he ate about 2 1/2 or 3 oz.

Oh and one more sign of them growing up, Noah's teeth must have really been hurting him. After getting him to bed and Josh to bed (at least for a bit until he decides he's starving again) Noah was really fussy, I went in and he was kind of smacking at his cheeks saying "ow" After a little tylenol and getting him resettled in and covered up, he looked at me, pointed to his door and said, "door, go" I asked him if he was ready for me to go and he nodded. Not another peep. What a big boy! I'm going to try and help Mike with the deck for a bit more now though...good night, enjoy the pictures!

Noah's Party

Wow! What a great time we had today for Noah's party. It was very wet outside so we couldn't go out and play like we were hoping but there was a lull so we were able to grill at least. The BBQ chicken was so yummy, I have been wanting something from the grill for a while and it totally hit the spot! The kids played so well, it's impressive when you conisder they are 2! We had the house set up right around 11 - our decorations included the play rug that normally is downstairs coming upstairs and we hung a little game on the wall that was from Valentine's Day - no sign of Valentine's theme, just "Cars". Everyone played until it was time to eat and then we had lunch, I kind of missed that part so I guess it went smoothly since I didn't hear any screaming from Josh & I's spot in the nursery (that kid has a thing about knowing when it's time for a meal and always wants to be part of it!). Then we did a quick clean up and it was time to open presents. Goodness, Noah got so many gifts! He was definitely into opening his presents too, I think 2 must be the age that they "get it" After presents it was time for cake and ice cream and then our party was over...it was time for naps (I think for all the guests actually!) So once everyone had left and we did a little more cleaning up, Noah got down for a nap and Josh followed, which meant that Mike & I were able to grab a nap too which was great since Josh was up late last night.

After our nap we tried to get everything put together for Noah before he got up, but it didn't happen. He woke up though and was so excited to play with his trains and cars. The Geotrax has already gotten lots of play time and so has the garage and the Smartville train set. We have lots of things to play with outside too, so we'll get to those once it is nice out again. It was such a great time, we had so many friends here to help us celebrate Noah's birthday. We'll have pictures posted soon!

Noah's Cake...

Well tomorrow is Noah's party and we are now officially ready (well kind of since it's going to rain we don't have to worry about the deck being done, it's not quite there yet...poor Mike he really has worked so hard on it but the weather and work just kind of threw things off). Noah is having a Cars themed party this year, but in a very homemade kind of way. His invitations were just some clipart and his cake is home made too. I think it turned out pretty cute, though I have to remember that I really am not good at this and it never turns out just how I want it, oh well I think he will love it. We went ahead and got good pictures tonight, in case little fingers find it tomorrow.

Speaking of little ones, both the boys have teeth ready to pop out any day now! I saw the four corners of one of Noah's molars, he kept pushing on his jaw saying "ow, ow" How sad is that? Our poor little guy. Josh's front two teeth seem to almost be ready to show too, his gums are so very white and hard, but no teeth just yet. Josh seems to be getting big so fast, though we are trying baby food, he still isn't too keen on it. He did take 3 bites today though without crying, after the 3 bites he was done and cried. We're finishing up cleaning the house tonight, then off to bed for the big day tomorrow. Of course, we will take tons of pics and share those later, Mike has a softball game tomorrow night too though so it may be a little bit before we do!

just a quick post

It seems like the past few days have been busy, there is SO much to get done it seems in the next few days and we've been running around like crazy. Though with 2 boys, it seems that one of us either Mike or I end up not doing much but playing and holding them. That's alright though, it's great that we are both home to do that. So just a recap, I think I posted the last time about our trip to the park, we made another trip to the park today with our friends, Sara & Ethan and Alexis and Simon. Both boys again had a great time. Joshua is so busy with his hands all of the time, he wants something to grab on to and put in his mouth. Seems odd to have to remember toys for him already, but we are going to have to start doing that. Honestly his blanket would also work in a pinch and he wouldn't care at all. He's also really enjoying his exersaucer - he especially likes the big top toy on it. He got upset this morning when he had himself turned around facing the snack tray, he was great once he had toy to look at. I think he's going to also be an outside boy, amazing how much more calm and settled he's been there.

Josh also had a doctor appointment yesterday, he just didn't look better to Mike or me, he looked worse and was still up itching several times at night (hard for any of us to sleep with that and not any fun!). Well, it turns out that he does have eczema - not too surprising but now they will follow that as needed and at his well baby visits and such. He got some hydrocortizone cream that we'll use for up to a week at a time during flare ups (like has right now). He already looks better today with just 2 treatments of it. Still lots of lotion and that kind of thing, but it's good to know we aren't losing our minds and that he seems to not itch so bad.

Noah continues to just love to play. He's so busy, he's really getting into doing puzzles this week. He'll go to his room and ask for them. He's getting pretty good at some of them too. Stickers have become a favorite again this week too. We have used them almost daily the past few days. We're learning that they only go on ourselves or paper though. Noah has just thoroughly enjoyed these beautiful days to spend time outside.

Mike continues to work hard on the deck, he's working on the benches/rails today and tonight. He has just worked so hard, I hope that he's able to finish by Saturday morning, I know if not he'll be very disappointed. We are still hoping to play and grill out for Noah's party (though they are calling for rain which wouldn't be much fun and we'd be moved inside). Baby Food & Deck Kind of Day...

Not a ton going on here today. We made our first batches of baby food today. Josh hasn't done more than just taste it though today. He made funny faces when we tried to feed him cereal, sticking his tongue out and making a scowl almost. He got a taste of butternut squash though and didn't stick any of it back out. So maybe he likes it. He'll have sweet potatoes, carrots, butternut squash and pears to choose from the next few weeks. I was really debating whether there would be time or energy to do this for Josh, with two little ones keeping us busy most days it seemed like I was just being too ambitious. I'm glad though that we tried this morning, I forgot that it only takes a couple of hours at a time to make enough for at least a couple weeks. Mike & Noah went to the hardware store again - I think this is becoming an every other day thing. The deck is looking great, today I think the plan is for the decking to get connected and trimmed up. He's making great progress and Noah is so excited about all the work and interested in what his daddy is doing, they are too cute together.

Happy May

Well, it is finally May - I wanted to expect warm weather, but of course not always the case here for May. We had the possibility for snow today, we didn't get it thankfully and it was a bit warmer than expected but still! We have been fairly busy here. Friday we had rain all day so Mike didn't get much done outside but was busy at work. I got to go the grocery store all alone - wow how nice is that? It was a HUGE trip as we hadn't needed to go for 2 weeks and got a lot of the stuff for Noah's party next weekend. We also took Josh to the doctor, it sounds almost silly but he has an itchy head - like he is purposively scratching at his head and we have tried everything we could think of. Well, basically they said to try baby oil on his scalp at least once a day. The poor baby, I feel awful for him because you can tell he is uncomfortable with. Though, of course since he was at the doctor we got a weight on him - ha ha, our little early bird is having NO problems catching up. So at his 4 month well baby visit he was 14 lb 9 oz. On Friday, he was 15 lb 7 oz. Almost a pound in about 3 weeks!

Today has been pretty busy, too. We went to run some errands this morning, a few more things for the deck and we also got a small patio set! I'm so excited about it, it will be great to use for outside dinners this summer. Mike worked on the deck most of the afternoon, with help again from Ken. Alexis was super nice and watched the boys for us as I was planning on a stamp thing for a couple hours this afternoon and was going to cancel going otherwise. We had dinner with Ken, Alexis and Simon and it was super yummy. Noah must have played himself out playing with Simon because he fell asleep on the way home after dinner and didn't protest at all to being changed into PJs and going straight to bed. Mike worked on the deck more, I got a few things done inside while Josh and I played, too and that's about it for us for the day.
